rain is falling looks likes love

ok i have been writing my fair share of blogs lately. i apologize. i live with my parents. and they dont have cable.

i feel as though i should clarify my "one" position. i just wanted to say i dont
believe there are many predestined "ones". but i do believe in predestination. in that you always choose that "one" person you end up with. so you were always going to choose that "one" despite the fact it wasnt destiny. so in a way its still destiny. i havent worked all that out yet. (and by that i mean agency).

i was never good with fate. it scares more me than dakota fanning. if there is fate and you are supposed to marry some"one" i would mess that up faster than anyone i know. i mean i would probably walk by my predestined "one" and think did that guy spill mustard on his shirt...yeah thats mustard. and walk away. thats probably what i would do.

so i have put some thought into why people might like the idea of fate or the "one". this has a mormon twist. here is the deal with mormons. they believe in a preexistence, existence, and then eternal life with four different eternal options. the whole thing is connected. or something.

anyway, i think that people like the idea of a "one" that they knew in the preexistence who they meet on earth and marry and then they get to spend forever with. its nice. its like everything is tied together. people find comfort in patterns. thats why there is so much repetition in the church. we use the same sacramental and baptismal prayers as the Nephites. its the tying of the past present and the future. and thats why people probably like the idea of a "one" in mormondom. i dont know why or if gentiles like the "one".

speaking of nephites that reminds me that in the above-fore mention church that many single women comfort themselves by saying if they dont get married and find the "one" in this life they are totally going to get hooked up with Nephite or a stripling warrior (who i am pretty sure were actually Lamanites). i find no comfort in an eternal future with a dead guy (warrior status or not) if that means i die a virgin. but i am impressed with anyone that finds comfort in anything in that kind of situation.

i am not sure repetition is an eternal principle. actually i am pretty sure its a mortal principle. i think what God wants is to become better people through obedience. but He understands this world is scary and repetition is comforting. so He allows it. but i think its more for our benefit than His. in fact i think i am pretty sure it holds most of us back from really progressing.

so yes i find comfort in quilts and patterns and the fact that my family has an easter picnic every saturday before easter that involves potato salad. but thats just because i like repetition like everyone else. not necessarily because its an eternal principle.

i feel like there probably aren’t as many nephites and stripling warriors who died single as women throughout the ages who have died single, so i’m betting all the heaven nephites already got celestially hitched…sorry gals – that’s the downside of being part of the “chosen generation” i think

dont fret ck men can marry more than one woman. you still might get a stripling warrior.

oh yeah i forgot that part...man i hope i get married before i die

natali said...

also i thought about it more. and those stripling warriors never actually died in battle right? cuz they were all so good (i actually really like that story but i digress) anyway. so i bet they all grew up and got married anyway. i wonder if i could marry someone who was dead who i would choose...

i will tell you who you'd marry. one of the many anti-nephi-lehis who just let himself be killed rather than take the lives of their brethren. a pacifist... wussy is the wrong word here, but along those terms.

i was actually leaning towards guy fawkes....who according to this article the mormons think may have been married. a girl can still hope.

OldEnough said...

that's so random. what--you just have a guy fawkes thing or you just love reading online encyclopedias? i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say repetition isn't a celestial principle, but rather an telestial errr terrestrial (that's where we are , right?) principle. like entropy is a terrestrial principle. things continually fall out of order, like we continually forget things, and repetition is the energy introduced back into the system to establish order or help us remember.

come on oldenough - everyone knows guy falkes day is the second best holiday next to flag day...

good point ck. yeah i think we are on the same page now oldenough. my guess is that the law of moses wasnt just to amuse God although i cant see how He couldnt help but be amused. i think it was through constantly repeating things people sometimes remember God. but even then He said they didnt really get it. i think if a person is living a higher law there are virtually no commandments because we dont need the commandments to remind of us God or make good decisions.

anyway we are telestrial. i consulted the chart.

Just in case I don't get the sex before I die, I would like to put in a request to marry cute Moroni. I have a secret crush on him. Also his father Mormon but he must have been married cause he had Moroni. Moroni we don't know. Both of those boys were righteous AND buff from fighting all the time. And they were smart because the planned wars and wrote scriptures. I would want Moroni. Don't think I'm creepy, k?

For the record, I AM getting sex before I die. I'm 99% sure. So there's no need for me to plan to marry dead people.

its ok that you have a crush on moroni. i have a crush on a character in the harry potter books. he doesnt fight in wars BUT he does tame dragons.

but what about the ties between trauma and repetition? for instance, how many times did any of you watch the video of those planes crashing in to the twin towers on september 11? it's like a process of normalizing the tramautic event by repeatedly viewing it (in our minds and on tv).

this is how i sometimes think of religious repetition (otherwise known as any kind of religious ceremony--mormon or not). like we're traumatized by what we don't know about the world, specifically death--other deaths as well as our own impending deaths--so we go through all these repetitions which attempt to normalize the unknown. does that make sense?

but entropy plays a big role in all our religious ceremonies. so the repetition is like a feedback loop except every time it's repeated, the ceremony loses it's original meaning rather than energy.

OldEnough said...

i can see how repetition could make something seem commonplace, but really those things that we do repeatedly (like the sacrament, and read scriptures, and pray, and repent) are connecting us to the divine (which is a greater energy, continuing with this analogy). the second law of thermodynamics would suggest that that energy would flow from a higher state (divine) to a lesser state (us). it recharges our batteries, which we then wear out, and then we charge again.

remember on what about bob where the kid in black talks with bob about death? and then they swear? that's awesome.

becky said...

that's the best part of what about bob. that kid and i are totally on the same page.

also, i think its totally offensive to tell someone, "buck up! there is a dead soldier waiting for you to die in 50-60 years. until then, live a sexless, lonely life." my bishop told this girl in our ward that her husband was probably a dead soldier. bless his heart. thanks, bishop. don't try to wash your hands of my suicide after THAT comment.

natali said...

yeah. i dont know why everyone is trying to set me up with dead soldiers/warriors. sometimes i dont like it when people hunt. why do they want to set me up with someone who can chop off someones head? it makes me think they dont know me at all.
